Five Habits of Safe, Defensive Drivers
26 June 2026

Passing your test is a milestone, not the finish line. The habits you build during lessons are the ones that keep you safe for decades afterwards.
Scan further ahead than feels necessary. Looking well down the road gives you time to react rather than forcing you into sudden braking.
Keep a genuine gap to the car in front, and increase it in rain or poor visibility. Space is the cheapest safety feature available to you.
Check mirrors regularly, signal early and clearly, and assume other drivers may not have seen you. Predictability from you makes the road safer for everyone.
